Unlocking Your Inner Guide: How to Access and Harness Your Consciousness

Consciousness in Zhineng Qigong

Have you ever wondered how to tap into your own consciousness and guide it towards positive change? It’s a question many of us have asked ourselves.

As Dr. Pang Ming, the founder of Zhineng Qigong once said:

”Mastery of Qi is really achieved through mastery of consciousness. We use consciousness in a careful, craftsman-like way. To shape our life, to attain our goals. If we use modern terminology to name this process, we call it Qigong.”

With this blog we would like to give some ideas on how you can access your consciousness and use it to become aware and to guide your thoughts, emotions, and actions towards your desired outcome. Being in an awakened state and applying your consciousness in an initiative way actively inwardly can help you to achieve your goals and live your best life.

What is consciousness?

Let’s start here. What does consciousness actually mean and how does it relate to Qi – life energy?

The Chinese word consciousness is called “Yishi”. While the character has detailed meaning,  we can roughly describe the word as ”keeping your intention of your heart and mind in the present while knowing and understanding the action of your inner voice in the present moment.”

According to Neuroscience, consciousness as a complex phenomenon involving several key aspects:

  1. Subjective experience: Consciousness is the subjective awareness of one’s thoughts, perceptions, emotions, and experiences. It is the “what it feels like” aspect of our mental lives.
  2. Wakefulness and awareness: Consciousness is associated with being awake, alert, and aware of the external world and internal mental states.
  3. Integration of information: Consciousness involves the integration and coordination of information from different senses and brain regions to perceive and understand the world.
  4. Attention and selective processing: Consciousness includes the ability to selectively focus attention on specific stimuli or mental contents.
  5. Self-awareness: Consciousness involves recognizing oneself as a unique individual with thoughts, emotions, and a sense of self.

In Zhineng Qigong, the use of consciousness is the essence of our practice. As Dr. Pang Ming suggests:

“We emphasize movement as a basis of cultivation … Concentrate your consciousness, that’s good enough. Focus on your feeling, awareness, consciousness, and spirit; eliminate the confused, fuzzy, weak, or negative. The result is you become a master of your own life, not a slave of the material world.”

A few ideas for mastering your consciousness

So how can you be more aware, turn inwards and guide your consciousness? For this, relaxation is of utmost importance. If someone holds on to other thoughts or is not open to it, it is very difficult. Here are some techniques that may help you to be more and relaxed, and access and guide your consciousness:

1.           Meditation: Regular meditation practice can help you develop the ability to focus your mind and access deeper levels of consciousness. Through meditation, you can become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and inner experiences.

2.           Mindfulness: Practicing mindfulness involves being fully present and aware of the present moment. This can help you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations and guide your consciousness towards a more focused and calm state.

3.           Visualization: Visualization involves using your imagination to create mental images or scenarios. By visualizing positive outcomes or situations, you can guide your consciousness towards a more positive state.

4.           Thought Foundation: what kind of mindset are you using in your daily life? What kind of foundation are you employing to nurture your mental activities? Is it positive, upright and healthy? You can use your consciousness to become aware, change and transform any kind of your thinking, according to your needs of the present moment as well as health and life intentions.

5.           Look inside of yourself: all the capabilities you need are already inside of yourself. Actively use your consciousness to concentrate and focus your mind on what is important and mine the infinite treasure that are within you.

Zhineng Qigong practice – it combines all of the above: It is a holistic system that integrates physical movements, mindfulness, meditation, and visualization practices to enhance holistic health, vitality, and well-being.

Remember that accessing and guiding your consciousness is a process that requires consistent practice and awareness. It’s important to be gentle with yourself and approach the process with an open mind and a willingness to learn and grow.
